Elon Musk is a fan of voicing his opinions on Twitter. Never leaving his fanbase in suspense for very long, Musk typically tweets quite regularly and sparks interesting debates, even among people who dislike him.

Just now, Musk left Twitter users with quite a bombshell as he posted "FREE AMERICA NOW." All capslock, as if he were yelling into the not-so-silent void of social media. And do his followers have something to say about that...

Is this the real Elon Musk, or a hacker?

People on Reddit have also been joining in on the conversation surrounding Musk's short and snappy Twitter post. Many more on Reddit have put forward the idea that Musk may have been hacked, as this is not his typical type of thought.

Some have said that because he is responding to some of the comments on his tweet that it must surely be him. However, if a hacker has indeed taken over Musk's account, they could as easily respond to comments as Musk could.

Musk may be controversial at times and not afraid to voice his opinion, but even this seems a bit far-fetched. Or is it? Musk has been downplaying the COVID-19 pandemic and has tried to keep his Tesla factories open as "essential businesses", but would he go this far to keep producing EVs?

Another interesting point is the timing of Musk's tweet. The hashtag #DoNotOpenCalifornia is currently trending in the U.S., and as that's going on, Musk is tweeting, nay, yelling, to reopen America. It certainly makes you wonder what's going through his mind at the moment. Saying Musk likes to swim against the current goes without saying here.

PLEASE #DoNotOpenCalifornia ....we are on the right path and opening too early wouldn’t only be a waste, but extremely dangerous.

A slew of responses has emerged on Twitter, some of which we'll share below for your perusal. In time, we're sure to find out whether or not this truly was Musk.

Some received responses from Musk:

If I had been this wrong about the pandemic I think I would just shut the fuck up about suggestions on what to do next

— Wild Geerters (@classiclib3ral) April 29, 2020

Others are agreeing on Musk's point:

Some are trying to help Musk out, whereas others think they can see right through it:

He is serious. He’s a narcissist who was on path to be the first trillionaire but now his Tesla bonus goals won’t be hit
